After receiving the recent safety recall notice regarding air bags, I took my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab to southern Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram located in Norfolk, va. My vehicle was inspected, and I was informed by a representative that the air bags would need to be replaced. The rep. Also stated that the required parts would be ordered, but due to a backlog/shortage, it would be approximately two weeks (minimum) until the required parts arrived. I inquired about having the air bags deactivated as a safety precaution since they meet the criteria to be replaced. The representative stated it would not be possible to deactivate the air bags because doing so would violate federal regulations. I find it highly unacceptable that I now have to drive my vehicle, for the next two weeks (minimum), with a known safety defect.

My mom and I were heading home from church when this man in a pickup ran the stop light and totaled my pickup, my mom had to be taken to the hospital because of a head injury and other injuries. The police came out and no one was ticketed. Anyway I got ahold of Chrysler and they sent me a letter in the mail stating that since it was not a head on collision they were not responsible. They said that since in was from the side, that it did not matter if the air bag deployed or not. My pickup passenger side air bag did not deploy this is why my 82 year mom was seriously hurt! my question is why are air bags put in vehicles or required if they are not going to work? I don't have the money or the means to hire a lawyer, and I'm without a vehicle and have been for quite awhile. The big 3 auto makers should be held responsible for all of the air bag problems that are going on even if they do not deploy! any help from you folks would be appreciated. P.S. I had to guess on my actual mileage but I know it was over 65,000. I apologize for bothering you folks but I need help. Oncoming vehicle lost control came across 4 lanes to hit front of truck. Dodge is totaled but air bags did not deploy. I contacted Dodge to have them check them out and was told, first a special task force would come check the airbags and we would be compensated, then later was told due to the age and mileage of my truck they wouldn't but I could take it to a Dodge dealership and see if they would run the test at my expense. Dodge didn't seem to care why air bags didn't go off since the truck is 10 years old.

While driving on narrow road air bags in steering wheel and passenger side dash started to activate before I could get off road and stop they exploded and I was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. This accident was investigated by Chrysler two different reps and findings were never released to the authorities. Chrysler was requested at two different times to release this info and never did. Thus I was charged with "left of center" violation. There were some critical injuries to multiple people and no deaths praise god.

I was driving my Ram 1500 and looked down and then back up and sadly ran into the back of another car. Have yet to get it to the shop as its Sunday but the damage was enough to crush in the front end plenty of my Ram. But no airbags deployed. Luckily neither myself or my passenger were hurt. I don't think I'll buy Dodge.

Ram 1500 8-cyl

  • 102,000 miles
I was traveling North on highway 47 following a van and some other vehicles when all of a sudden everyone locked up and by the time I saw the vehicle in front of me hit the brakes I slammed on my brakes and slid into him damaging his rear panel doors and the front end of my truck. No airbag deployed either on the driver or passenger side of the truck that I was driving. It was raining at the time and the roads were saturated so stopping abruptly was out of the question still I tried, no one was injured in the crash however the very next day I experienced this very severe nose bleed that lasted about 15-20 non stop when it finally slowed to a trickle I went to the nearby hospital emergency room. We were traveling about 40-45 mph when the crash occurred and I'm curious as to why the bags didn't deploy.
