Fusion

  • 58,000 miles
Going down highway at about 50 mph when the car just seemed as if it was not getting any gas. The gas pedal would not work. Second time pulling out after stopping at stop sign and when pulled out in the middle of the road it stalled out again, tried pushing gas peddle to make it go and felt as if the gas peddle was not working at all.

  • 39,486 miles
My car stalled on a busy highway (21 N). Luckily I was in the right lane and could coast off to the side. I turned my car off and then back on and it was fine. It happened two more times; one while going to work and yesterday when dropping my elderly mother off at her home. I was afraid to drive the highway to work as there is a lot of construction and nowhere to turn off the road should it happen again. I am now sitting at the Ford shop and they tell me it is the throttle body and will cost $560 to fix. This car is barely three years old and I am a little disappointed to find that there have been so many complaints about this particular part without a resolution. I no longer feel safe driving in my car.

  • 31,700 miles
Driving at a constant speed of 45mph when my car idles out, lose control of gas pedal function (acceleration) while making a right turn on a red light. (oncoming traffic coming from the left driver-side. Wrench icon comes on my instrument panel. Care begins to stutter and shake, I still can not use my gas pedal. I turn the car off and back on in the middle of the road (things reset and are fine). There is a defective throttle body part that numerous other Ford Fusion are having, yet no recall has been made? my car has very low miles for it's year and should not be experiencing this issue. I could have been seriously injured.

Fusion

  • 67,425 miles
I purchased my Ford Fusion at a dealership three days ago. Yesterday I was driving my car home from work and suddenly I lost the ability to accelerate, and an orange wrench popped up on my dashboard. My car started to sputter so I had to coast to the side of the road and shut down. When I went to start it back up at sputtered but started again. This happened one more time on my trip home. Both times I was nearly rear-ended. Upon researching this issue I've noticed that this is a recurring problem. What I have not come to understand is why you have not recall whatever part is causing this. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. This is extremely dangerous and I really hope that it doesn't take somebody getting killed for this part to be recalled.

Fusion

  • 60,000 miles
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure caused the vehicle that was following the contact's vehicle to abruptly turn to avoid crashing into the contact however, the second vehicle became involved in a crash as a result. The contact's vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the throttle body actuator control system. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred one year later but the dealer was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000, and the current mileage was 75,500.

Fusion 4-cyl

  • 30,000 miles
I was driving at 70 mph on the highway when all of a sudden my vehicle essentially stalled. The engine still appeared to be running (minimal rpms), but I couldn't accelerate, so the slowdown to a crawl was rather dramatic. I was absolutely lucky I was not injured as I was nearly clipped by an 18-wheeler as I attempted to pull to the side of the highway. The wrench-shaped light came on, which I had never seen before. I had my vehicle towed, but while waiting on the side of the highway my battery shorted out. The nearest Ford dealership (willis Ford of smyrna, Delaware) was not able to get any "codes" from the test they run. So all they ended up doing was replacing my battery. I picked my car up the following afternoon and it seemed fine. However, the next morning (the first incident happened on the 4th, the second on the 6th), the same thing happened. Albeit I was only driving about 50mph. Once again, the wrench light came on. The Ford dealership in dover, Delaware (winner Ford) also could not get the code. But after my research and explanations, they were in roughly 80% agreement that it was the throttle body, so with my permission they replaced it. That was on the 11th or 12th. They had kept it for a couple of days and drove it themselves to try and get the situation to replicate, which they couldn't do. Since it has been replaced, it has not happened. I don't know what to expect of this process, but knowing that there's an investigation makes me feel a little less crazy.

  • 65,000 miles
Starting in June 2013 my vehicle began stalling as I was driving. The first time I was driving on I95 at 70 mph when the engine stalled and decelerated rapidly. I had to get to the side of the road as I could and turn the car off, turn it back on. By the time I got it fixed on September 23, 2013 it was happening up to 10 - 20 times per day! I took the car to the dealer but because the basic warranty expired, the repairs were my responsibility. I went on line and saw that there are a lot of Ford owners having the same problem. I now have paid and my vehicle is fixed but this is a life and death situation and needs to be taken seriously. Someone is going to die - I have almost been rear ended so many times due to this problem as well as it stalling during a left hand turn where I had to turn it off in the middle of an intersection and turn it back on.

As I was driving on the freeway in the middle lane, my accelerator pedal stopped working. I was able to swerve between other cars to get to the right lane shoulder where I was able to stop and shut it off. I sat for a minute and the car started back up fine and went on. This again happened 2 days later from the left lane during rush hour traffic, a lot more dangerous.

Car suddenly lost power and sputtered and the wrench light came on. Happened 3-4 more times, then took to a Ford dealer and it was determined to be the throttle body and was notified the part was on backorder due to many cars having the same issue. Notified Ford with no results.

21 Aug 2013 heading home from work at 5:30pm. I pulled up to the traffic light that was 10 miles from my destination, light turned green I accelerated to reach the alloted speed for the road. 1/2 mile down the road the car began to surge, no power to the engine, rpms where not operational, car began to slow down, engine and wrench light came on. I was able to pull off the road to safety. Sat for 10 minutes, turned the vehicle off and on numerous times the engine and wrench light both shut off and the car ran fine all the way to my destination. 12 September 2013, on my way to Florida on interstate 10 at speeds of 70 mph on a busy interstate the car surged violently and began to slow down leaving us to dangerously move across lanes with no throttle response to get to the shoulder of road to get to safety I sat for 20 minutes, using the same remedy I was able to get the vehicle to start and run but the engine light remained on for the remainder of the trip. No shops where open to run a diagnostic test, I could not find out the code the vehicle was alerting me it had. 20 September 2013 at 1:30am coming back from Florida neared a red light to stop the vehicle ran fine at speeds of 60mph stopped at the light and proceeded to make a left turn on the green signal @ speeds 10mph the vehicle stalled, surged badly and gave no throttle response in the middle of the traffic lights, leaving us to gradually to steer into an opened lane. The car started back up a few times still surging and not showing signs of driving until I shut it off for the last time.

While driving down the road, the car will suddenly jerk and the check engine (wrench) light will come on and I will immediately lose all ability to accelerate. After pulling the car over and putting the car in park, the car begins to shake until I turn off the car. When I turn the car back on, it takes a minute to turn over and then drives fine until it happens again.

Fusion

  • 43,358 miles
I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion, with 43,000 miles on the highway passing a car, when I experienced a jerk and could no longer accelerate. I looked in my rearview mirror to see a car approaching very quickly. I was lucky that I was only passing one car and it had already gotten by me so I pulled back over and coasted to the side of the road. There was a wrench light on. I turned car off, waited a moment and started it again. The wrench was gone. Took it to the Ford dealership and no codes came up. However, the etb check found a fault. The electronic throttle body was replaced. This is serious problem that needs to be corrected immediately before someone is injured or killed.

Fusion 6-cyl

  • 45,000 miles
I recently purchased the vehicle used with 43,000 miles on it. In order to get the vehicle registered in my state I had to have an emissions test done. At some point during the test the vehicle's electronic power steering system detected a fault that disabled the power steering. When I got back in the car I had no power steering and the trip computer listed the following errors: "service power steering now" and "service advanced trac". I immediately took the car to the Ford dealer where they diagnosed the problem as being an internal electrical issue with the eps system. They stated this wasn't an issue that could be fixed other then replacing the whole power steering rack. The dealer is charging $1,854.52 for the job. I have looked up this issue online and it appears that many people have had this happen while driving. I wasn't driving the car at the time but the test did involve driving the car on a dynamometer up to speeds of around 60 mph. If the system failed then, it could have happened at anytime. I don't understand why the system shuts off automatically when it detects an issue. Driving the car, and suddenly loosing power steering is a scary concept. These systems seem to be unreliable and put the passengers and other vehicles at risk. When reading in the owners manual about these error codes it states that the system will shut off when it detects a fault. But this is not a "normal" problem for cars. With a hydraulic system this would never happen.

  • 55,000 miles
I was turning left into a driveway and my car lost acceleration but did not quit running. I pulled over to the side of street and turned the car off for a few minutes and the car started back up with no problem. There was no check engine light or any other indicator that something was wrong. It happened again same day same thing. It worries me that I might be killed the next time. I called the Ford dealership and was told this has happened to several of their customers but no recalls are on record. This is very dangerous and Ford should take a close look at this before someone is killed or seriously injured.
