Driving down the highway and the electric steering went out and about crashed due to not being able to turn.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while pulling out of the parking lot, the steering wheel emitted abnormal loud grinding sounds. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he continued driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was test driven. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the electronic steering assist needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in a recall associated with the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

I was driving down the highway interstate 24 with kids in the car around the curls me marker 159 and my steering no warning went out completely hard as hell to turn traffic I spun out trying to over correct it damanage my front clip aka bumper all to hell I saw this complaint when I was searching recalls and common problems with my branded car what do I do for wants an arm and a leg I can't afford to fix the power steering was there a recall on that part or what ever came out of the 550 complaints

The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the Power Steering Assist Fault message was displayed, and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the power steering control module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The power steering control module was replaced and reprogrammed and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 210,000.

On at least two occasions, after cranking car, the power steering fails to work. The console warning message indicated Power Steering Assist Fault. Given that nearly one-third of ALL safety complaints for this vehicle are about steering and that several complaints have noted that the power steering can fail while driving and cause an accident, this issue certainly indicates the need for a recall. Other model years with the identical issue have been recalled.
