problem #227

Cherokee

  • 56,000 miles
Shuts off after starting, display screen blacks out and radio doesn't work, engine light and brake lights come on and off. Heat and air conditioning settings keep resetting to halfway between hot and cold. Shuts off and slams into park or neutral. Gears drop heavily when shifting from park to drive. Computer keeps resetting. These things usually occur after starting and pulling away. You need to stop and restart the Jeep. These things have also occurred at 65mph. This has steadily been getting worse over the last 4 months.

This is follow up to previous complaint 11281573: Dealer received Jeep via tow and found stuck in neutral as I described. Let sit overnight and dealer indicates Jeep will only go in reverse, later in day second try Jeep drives fine and no codes to report a problem to fix. Cannot identify failure since no "codes" were available in system. Dealer drove vehicle several times without problem of going into neutral occurring. I picked up vehicle and drove home. Next morning while making a signaled left turn no city street, Jeep goes into neutral, coast to adjacent parking lot crossing over one lane and stop. Vehicle engages into drive so I proceed. Returning home a few minuets later and at about 50 mph Jeep again goes into neutral, I remove foot off accelerator but engine accelerates to about 5500 to 5800 RPM as I coast to side of road (quite shaken at this point due to accelerated engine). Check engine light comes on during this episode. Wait a few minuets to calm down and restart Jeep. Transmission engages and return to dealer. Dealer finds code is due to difference between wheel speed and engine speed- not transmission related. Several service techs drive Jeep throughout the day without problem. Later in day driver experiences neutral condition 3 times while test driving- still no codes to id problem. Adviser contacts mopar extended warranty (max care unlimited mileage) but cannot get auth to repair without "codes". dealer has opened a "star case" with factory.

Cherokee

  • 110,000 miles
The car stalled in the middle of the driving on 11/4. Jeep's doagnostics states there are engine issues specifically with the cams part which causes for the car to stall unexpectedley and cause major risk leading to accident and death. The engine was bought brand new and properly maintained. It is unacceptable for a 4-year old car/engine to fail with that short life span

This has happened more times than I can count. It typically happens on the first start of the day. The car will run and then start running really rough for no reason and usually stalls out. Today it ran fine and stalled out a mile down the road. I attached some P codes to the complaint as well as they consistently come up with the issue. I've changed the spark plugs, the 2nd cylinder coil ignition start pack as that was one of the issues from the P codes. This is very dangerous and needs to be addressed. I'm taking this into a Jeep dealer on 11/22. If anyone else has the issue please let me know so I can find a solution. My car has stalled out in the middle of the road several times and then starts right back up after a few minutes like nothing is wrong. Images of the P codes are attached for reference.

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude has stall out 3 times on me while driving on busy highways. I took the vehicle in for repair and was told this particular engine consumes oil at a fast rate and without any warning, when low, will stall unexpectedly. No warning, no oil pressure gauge alerts, car simple stalls. I am afraid the vehicle will stall and me and any occupant will be killed or seriously injured. I have notice the same complaint numerous times on line.

Since purchasing 2015 Jeep Cherokee it has been more at the dealers than my home. It has been a nightmare, problems with transmission, sensors, and radio etc. It has been replaced numerous times for substantial defects and it continues to do so. This falls under the lemon law. It's getting to the point I am seeking an attorney, if my warranty is not extended and this is not fix at no charge to me. Last night the Jeep stop in the middle of the freeway almost caused an accident with warnings of (shift to P then desired gear) and service airbag system. This is my life you are playing with, for you're on going defects. I am a loyal Jeep customer. I have a Jeep Wrangler, Jeep compass and sebring Chrysler. All I am asking is for my piece of mind and not worry about paying for anything when I have a defected and it's not safe to drive. Please respond and solved this problem asap. Thanks again and have a bless day.

My gas cap light has been on for 2 years. I apparently am the only one with this issue and have been told there is nothing that can be done as they need a flash to reset the motherboard. In the meantime to rule things out I had to have the vapor test done and replace the gas cap which of course solvee nothing.

Automatic start/stop system doesn't always engage. The transmission stays in 3rd gear after coming to a stop at a stop sign or traffic light and the car has high revolutions and jerks unit it down shifts to 1st gear when the gas pedal is pressed. Causing hesitation in engine and putting me and my family in close calls for accidents.

Cherokee

  • 52,000 miles
Was driving down the interstate at 70mph the engine abruptly shut off. The dashboard read "shift to P then desired gear". this has also happened when coming to a stop. Attempting to restart the engine causes the starter to run for about 45 seconds and then the engine will slowly sputter to life. This vehicle is unsafe and there are a massive amount of complaints about this spanning back over 4 years.

2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4 wheel drive. It is under warranty for transmission, etc. Using oil, ( evaporates?) and is a known issue with this make model and year. Called Jeep and was advised to get it into service immediately due to known issues, but they would not allow me to make a complaint. Jeep has been trying to stall out while driving, at stops, hard shifts, brake comes on automatically, completely stopped in the middle of the road while driving, and oil has somehow disappeared from it, but no leaks.

As I am driving my car stahl's and everything shuts off. This typically happens as I am making a turn. This typically happens as I get closer to the date of my next oil change. The car shuts off completely and I must coast to a stop. After waiting about a minute I can restart the engine. This is a very dangerous situation as I am typically turning to cross traffic.

On June 24, 2019 my 2015 Jeep trailhawk lost power was after it was driven for 30 mins and parked for 30 mins in the morning. The battery and transmission warning lights were on. We replaced the battery and the transmission light remained on. I was advised by the dealership to have the 'codes' cleared. I did and the light was gone. On August 5, 2019 the transmission warning light was on again. The dealership stated it was safe to drive and I made an appointment to have the vehicle serviced on August 27, 2019. On August 4, 2019, I was driving up a dirt mountain road, 4wheel low, and I lost power and the RPM were over 4.5 at less than 10 miles per hour. We turned around and got to a safe location to park the car. The next day, the car was operational. On August 22, 2019, I was moving slowly in traffic and as the traffic became lighter and I went to increase my speed, I lost power again. RPM were above 4.5 at 20 miles, I did not have the vehicle 4 wheel low. I was adjacent to the dealership and took it directly there. This has happened once before, August 23, 2017, the dealership replaced the transmission. The vehicle jerks when stopped at a light and it starts up again. I no longer feel safe in the vehicle. I am scared that I will lose power in a remote location or in traffic and cause an accident.
